Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal sent to judicial custody until July 12 in liquor policy case, following CBI

The Rouse Avenue Court remanded Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to 14 days judicial custody till July 12 in the liquor policy case after expiry of his three-day CBI custody. The arrest was ordered by Special Judge Amitabh Rawat on June 26 saying it was necessary to confront Kejriwal with the evidence. Kejriwal's lawyer also vehemently opposed the remand explaining how the evidence appeared doubtful. What the Court did say was that once police custody ends, a person is deemed to be in judicial remand and it falls into procedural necessity. The CBI had asked for five days of remand and managed to get three. AAP leaders also staged protests near the BJP headquarters and in other states, demanding Kejriwal's release. Adequate security arrangements were also made near the BJP office.
