It is in this backdrop, the National Testing Agency (NTA) cancelling the UGC-NET examination on Wednesday after their initial claims of success will add to the NTA's woes. This intensified the pressure on NTA in view of anomalies in NEET-UG and complaints related to JEE. Unlike its tardy response to the NEET flap, the Education Ministry wasted no time setting aside a UGC-NET order based on information from the Home Ministry's cybercrime team, referring it to the CBI for investigation. The hard work, time and money of around nine lakh students who had appeared for the examination, demands answers. Doubts persist about movement offline, which leads to question paper leak. Restoring trust requires greater transparency and accountability. Certain political leaders may say that the NTA should be scrapped, however, systemic reforms will be necessary to solve issues relating to the upcoming exam also.
