Landslides in Wayanad, Kerala leave 11 dead and hundreds feared trapped; rescue efforts hindered by heavy rain.

Early Tuesday, having caused several deaths and left hundreds feared trapped beneath the debris in Meppadi of Kerala's Wayanad district. This time, the first landslide occurred at around 2 am followed by another one on 4:10'm. Three children are among eleven people confirmed dead. Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan said search and rescue operations by government agencies are on. The teams of Fire Brigade and NDRF are present on the site, while more NDRF team is reaching soon from Ferozepur. Ministers along with health workers are assisting Wayanad. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia for the family of deceased and Rs 50,000 in serious injured cases, besides offering central assistance. With the met department predicting heavy rain and thunderstorms in some 20 districts, rescue operations would be hit by incessant rainfall.
