Last month, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had declared that the Centre would soon table three new laws on crime to supplant colonial penal codes with a desi legal system. These laws focus on justice and not punishment, they bring the legal framework to modern times with technology driven provisions that are more victim centric. The changes include recording statements of survivors and complaints at home, online FIR facility as well as the definition of mob lynching. Sections dealing with treason laws have been substituted by the anti-national activities. Recordings of Searches Are Now Required Refuting the criticism by Opposition, Shah said there has been elaboration discussion and debates in Parliament on all issues. He said the laws guarantee expeditious justice and respect for its citizens, even as he called upon all politcal parties to cooperate.
