Supreme Court rules West Bengal's lawsuit challenging CBI investigations without state consent is legally valid.

SC kept the suit of West Bengal against an order of central government permitting CBI to investigate within state over chit fund scams legally maintainable. The Mamata Banerjee government had challenged the Centre's sanction to conduct CBI investigations without state consent. BR Gavai and Sandeep Mehta, who heard the pressing mentioning decided that issue framing in West Bengal's suit will be on July August 13. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal appeared for the state and submitted consent was withdrawn on November 16, 2018. In response, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said the Union has no control over CBI investigations. Alleging that no FIR shall be registered and investigation initiated by the CBI without its consent, West Bengal invoked Article 131.
