Kathmandu, Nepal | A Saurya Airline plane crashed and caught fire during takeoff in Kathmandu city of Kathmadnu district, 18 people killed including pilot and aircraft on March2(Thursday). It is the latest fatal air crash in Nepal, which suffers from a dismal aviation safety record — mostly blamed on inadequate maintenance and sub-standard management. We could all be on the doomed Indonesian plane with Nepal's difficult topography and terrible aviation infrastructure that has so many accidents. In January 2023, a Yeti Airlines crash killed 72 people while in July of the same year six had died following an helicopter accident. The pattern of crashes illustrates major concerns regarding aviation safety in Nepal. The most recent crash is now under investigation.
