It is said that a hidden camera has been found in a washroom of the girls’ hostel of Seshadri Rao Gudlavalleru College of Engineering in Gudivada on Thursday. It wasn’t long before reports came out that the videos from the camera were being passed around the boys’ hostel. As a result there was a demonstration by the students who vowed to get justice alleging that a fellow student had sold the videos. Police arrested a final year BTech student, and retrieved his laptop as well as cell phones. Another thing that was a subject of controversy with this incident was that it was alleged that a female student assisted in placing the camera.

But when police investigated Krishna District SP gangadhar Rao denied the presence of secret cameras in the institute. To this he promised that no videos were recovered from the searches of the suspect’s electronic devices and that female students should not have any cause to fear. He said that more investigation is in progress.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu initiated an inquiry to the incident and asked District Collector Kollu Ravindra and the SP to get to the bottom of it. Minister Nara Lokesh also replied in the floor of the house asking for an investigation into it and said that any misconduct found will not be tolerated and strict action will be taken against the persons involved. He called upon college management to be more active in curbing ragging and other forms of harassments to college students and wanted institution to be safe for all the students.
