The announcement was made angry Dalit and Adivasi groups on Tuesday, hours after the SC/ST Act petition review of top court. The BSP and RJD, both of which are in the opposition have also supported the protest. These groups demand a bolder representation and security of the marginalized sections, discouraging any consideration by them for defining 'creamy layer' from SCs/STs as attempted to be done in this court.
NACDAOR is demanding a new legislation on reservations and 50% quota for SC/ST/OBC s in higher judiciary. Schools and coaching institutes will also be closed in some districts of Rajasthan, which is likely to bear the brunt. Emergency supplies, banks and public buildings are exempted from the bandh that was announced last week.
