The BJP has lately tried to alienate itself from the comments of its Mandi MP Kangana Ranaut in regards to the ongoing farmers protest and has warned her not to make such comments in future. In their statement on August 26, BJP only reiterated that Kangana does not speak for the BJP, but she is a party member. The party clarified that she enjoys no permission to make any statement on the policies on behalf of BJP.
Kangana find herself in trouble, especially when she said that if the government did not act, then the farmer protest could have led to Bangladesh type situation. She posted a video on the social media accounts saying that,” There were cases of people hanging and rapes that happened within the protest. ” She also alleged that the conspiratorial forces and opposed interests of foreign countries persisted the agitations, even after withdrawal of the farm bills.
The kinds’ words give voices within the party: while senior BJP leader Harjit Garewal asked her to stay away from commenting on issues of such a nature. He also said that Kangana’s comments were personal and did not support the party’s farmer friendly approach .
These remarks are made in the backdrop of Haryana assembly polls and has the potential to harm BJP’s standing among the farmers. Kangana has been criticized before due to the things she has said on farmers especially during the anti-farm laws protests in 2020.
