BJP plans to contest 60-70 seats independently in J&K elections; NC and Congress form alliance with a statehood agenda.

The J & K unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) plans to spearhead 60-70 assembly seats in the forthcoming J & K assembly elections. It was in the meetings of the Central Election Committee held during the dominance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah and JP Nadda it was decided that BJP would fought alone without any alliance. Notably, thus, the BJP wants to support fine independent candidates in the Kashmir Valley rather than fielding its own. There are big chances that some more important faces of BJP are to be omitted in the Jammu region.

Elections for the 90-member Jammu and Kashmir assembly will be conducted in three phases: September 18, 25 and October 1; the results are released on October 4.

While the National Conference known as NC has an alliance with the Congress party and they have finalized and agreed to seat-sharing. The Congress wants to ensure that it fields its candidates on the 12 Assembly segments in the Kashmir Valley and in return it has kept 12 seats open for the NC in the Jammu region. One main goal of this combine is to demand the revocation of the decision of abrogating the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir.

The assembly polls of 2024 are the first in nearly one-decade since the regional got its first government elected again. It was a BJP-PDP coalition that failed in 2018, followed by revoking article 370 in 2019 and since then, Jammu and Kashmir is under the Governor’s rule for the state.
