CBI tests Kolkata Police ASI Anup Dutta in RG Kar doctor’s rape-murder case; investigating possible cover-up

CBI has begun a polygraph test on the behalf of the incident of the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital at night last Tuesday in which assistant sub-inspector Anup Dutta of the Kolkata Police has been summoned for it. This was after a court cleared him hence being the eighth person in the case to undergo the test that showed Dutta’s side.

Dutta is currently in the Kolkata Police Welfare Committee and several links it to Sanjay Roy for being a traffic police volunteer and the actual criminal. Detectives are looking into whether it is possible that Roy maybe privy to some details of the crime had disclosed it to Dutta or had sought his assistance in concealing the crime. Even though the outcomes of the test cannot in any way be produced as evidence in the court of law, the information produced under the test can assist in getting other evidence that supports the case.

The polygraph test keeps track of the physical features such as pulse rates as well as sweating to tell lies from the truth.

The woman, a second-year trainee doctor aged 31 years was sexually assaulted and killed at a seminar hall in RG Kar Medical College on August 9 while on duty at night. Sanjay Roy was arrested because this man was caught on CCTV entering the hall at 4:03. It has to be mentioned here that the Calcutta High Court ordered the CBI to take over the investigation on the 14th of August. Since then the agency has administered pol grams to several people among them Roy, a former medical college principal and four doctors.
