CBI finds substantial evidence in corruption case against ex-RG Kar principal; searches conducted in Kolkata.

According to the CBI Anti Corruption Branch in its corruption case lodged against Sandip Ghosh, a former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, have come across certain revelations. The CBI conducted searches at the residences and offices of Ghosh, ex-medical superintendent Sanjay Vashisth and 13 others at Kolkata regarding charges of embezzlement in the institute funds.

CBI team along with the central forces, went to Ghosh residence in the morning today and waited for nearly an hour before they were let inside. Much the same could be said when I questioned a CBI official about the findings to which the official responded, “Bahut kuch hai” quite literally meaning but literally meaning there a lot. It was on the basis of an FIR registered against Ghosh and three private entities from Kolkata on the charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating and corruption under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The CBI’s move came after Calcutta High Court ordered investigation into the multi-crore scam and into the wee hours of August 9 murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor of the hospital. Many questions were posed to Ghosh, Vashisth and other officials on the specifics they had of the financial manipulations during their term. Further investigation is under way and the CBI also investigated the hospital’s offices and suppliers of the hospital. The crime has elicited public outrage and protests among the doctors all across the country.
