Former Jharkhand CM Champai Soren to Join BJP Ahead of State Elections

Champai Soren, ex-Jharkhand CM, to join BJP on August 30 in Ranchi, boosting party's prospects in upcoming state elections.


The former Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Champai Soren, will formally join BJP on August 30 at Ranchi as informed by the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The screens son, and BJP’s co-incharge for the forthcoming Jharkhand assembly elections, finalised the news on X on August 26. He posted a photo showing Soren meeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi. Sarma said, “Ex. CM of Jharkhand and a respected tribal face of our nation @ChampaiSoren Ji met Hon’ble Union Home Minister @AmitShah Ji few minutes ago. @ChampaiSoren will formally join @BJP4India on 30th August in Ranchi”. 

 

Champai Soren one of the senior and founding leaders of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) recently voiced displeasure with his party and charged the leadership with disrespecting him. Earlier, there were speculations that Soren might cross the aisle and join BJP, to which he had come out and said that he was not planning to do so. 

 

Soren also known as ‘Jharkhand Tiger’, who played an active role in the agitation for formation of Jharkhand has been prominent. It on this light that his joining BJP is viewed by the party as a strategic plan to address the state elections. His induction is likely to give a boost to BJP in so far as the tribal voters in Jharkhand are concerned.
