On Monday, the second Arihant-Class submarine 'INS Arighaat' was inducted into the Indian Navy at Visakhapatnam with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh present. Singh said that "Arighaat" will add to an India's nuclear triad, strengthen its retaliation capabilities and strategic balance of power as well as enhance the country national security. He also said this is a stride ahead regarding 'Aatmanirbharta' in defence. The submarine is likely to give a boost to the industrial sector in India including MSMEs and subsequently create more jobs. INS Arihant, a part of the Shipbuilding Centre series boasts speeds up to 24 knots submerged and can be armed by its ability for loading nuclear-armed SLBM. This brings the total number of SSBNs operated by India to two, as part of their nuclear triad — INS Arihant and future sister-class ship INS Arighaat -with additional submarines planned.
