Sanjoy Roy, the main suspect in a junior doctor's murder, claims innocence and consents to a polygraph test in court.

The primary accused in Junior doctor’s rape and murder at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital stated his not guilty plea in a Kolkata court on Friday. Roy, who was arrested by Kolkata Police on August 10, seemed upset when the judge asked him if he was willing to take a polygraph test. Roy spoke to the Times of India then: I haven’t committed any crime. I’m being framed. Maybe this test will prove that.

The polygraph test has two preconditions: court sanction and the suspect’s consent, and so, Roy agreed. Earlier, the CBI had sought this test for Roy and some other accused people related to this case. The court allowed the polygraph test and took Roy to judicial custody for 14 days. Newspapers mentioned that he physically ‘broke down’ in the process of affirming his innocence in court.

The court also permitted to carry out polygraph tests on Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and five other persons including four doctors, who were with the victim on the day when she was murdered. The victim a 25 year old trainee doctor was raped and killed on August 9 and enthused a fury of the heinous act among medical professionals in India . The strike came to a stop after the intervention of the Supreme Court.
