West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee denies threatening junior doctors on strike, supports their protest, and calls for a Bill on capital punishment for rapists.

On Thursday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee rebutted allegations about her misbehaviour with junior doctors and threatening them as they have been on strike for the last 21 days. This was as a result of protest that followed alleged rape and murder of one female medic which created uproar within the medical profession.

On the social media platform X, Banerjee said, “I have not uttered a single word against the medical students or their movements I totally support their movement. Their movement is genuine I never threatened them, as some people are accusing me of The allegation is totally false.

The ruckus started following the statement made by Banerjee during a rally held by the Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad which is the students’ wing of Trinamool Congress supporting the striking junior doctors and urging them to go back to work. Her comments, however, were interpreted by the agitating doctors as a ‘veiled threat’ hence made them decline the request by Her to go back to work.

She also despised BJP saying they are working against democracy in West Bengal with help of central government. Also, she said she would call an assembly session next week to pass a Bill supporting the death penalty for those found guilty of rape. In a bid to press on the Governor into passing the Bill, Banerjee threatened that there would be protest all over West Bengal. On the other hand, the TMC National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee said that Delhi will witness a massive protest if the Centre do not pass time-bound law to curb crimes against women.
