PM Modi's Kyiv visit on August 23 aims to discuss peace talks with Zelenskyy, following criticism from Ukraine over Moscow trip.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to hold a meeting with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in Kyiv on August 23 to discuss the peace-making process. This visit can be assessed six weeks after Modi’s visit to Moscow when he discussed the Russia – Ukraine war situation. Modi has always advocated diplomacy to restore the war, and has said, “As a friend and partner, we pray for early end to conflicts and restoration of previous peace in the region.

The visit to Kyiv points to India’s non-aligned approach to the war. Zelenskyy accused Modi of snubbing him at the Moscow meeting saying it was a ”big disappointment as well as a huge disappointment and a devastating mission blow to cooperation in peace-making in relation to a Russian cruise missile attack on the children’s hospital in Ukraine.

Modi’s next meeting with Zelenskyy is viewed as the key event in managing India’s stance in Ukraine after the Moscow visit. Advisor to the President of Ukraine Mykhailo Podolyak underlined that India is an influential actor in relation to Moscow to strive for effective cooperation, for the construction of peace. People are eager to know how Modi would unravel such matters whenever he comes over.
