The incident, in which a postgraduate trainee doctor was allegedly tortured, raped and killed at a government hospital here has evoked nation-wide protests reminiscent of the massive backlash following 2012 Delhi gang rape. The crime took place in the seminar hall of a hospital when she was on her duty shift, which extends to 36 hours and showed severe security lapses followed by gross negligence from the hospital authorities. Meanwhile, a civic volunteer who had reportedly got police welfare cell job with the help of his "connections" has been arrested. CCTV coverage was scant, and security staff had taken no action. The outburst resulted in protests demanding justice & safety by the doctors, throughout India. The reaction of police, including early claims ruled as suicide and hesitancy to release details have further shattered public confidence.
