PM Modi Aims to Revive Nalanda Spirit, Develop Education System to Prevent Students from Going Abroad

Addressing the nation on Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed that it is a stated aim of his government to create an educational system in India which doesn't compel students study outside. He cited the example of the Bihar government's attempt to revive Nalanda University, which is an re-enactment of its glorious scholastic past. Modi also talked about the new education policy focusing on vernacular languages and said that importance must be given to mother tongues in imparting education. Dismissing those who criticised the steps taken by his dispensation as being "chalta hai" (lackadaisical), he said that previous governments had got away with a lot, and added that their idea of change is same. Modi's speech was his eleventh Independence Day address in a row and comes unexpectedly late into the third term of ruling India.
