Vadodara Floods Worsen, Army Deployed for Rescue Operations Amid Alarming Situation

Second day the severe flooding in Vadodara in Gujarat state as the authorities stated as alarming condition, and sent the Army for the rescue operation. Health Minister Rushikesh Patel pointed out that some of the zones are flooded by 10 to 12 feet water level. Heavy rains, and water from the Ajwa dam overflow filled the Vishwamitri river beyond its high danger mark of 25 feet to rise to a height of 37 feet. 

 

 In order to address the crisis the government stocks the dam gates to regulate the incoming water and stops the addition to the river which has flooded several residential areas. Four military groups are involved in the operations of rescue now which has led to the evacuation of over 5000 people and pulling out 1200 people from various floods zones. NDRF and SDRF teams are also involved in the evacuations and three fresh columns of the Army have also been deployed to boost the process of evacuation and to provide food supplies. 

 

 Food has been given out in portions of over 38,000 and while there are other 100,000 food portions ready for distribution. The flood affected places are Siddharth Nagar, Akota, Harni Sama Road, Fatehgunj, Munjmahuda and Vadsar. This tragedy has also received support from local leaders of BJP party who are also providing aids to the affected communities. The state government is planning to bypass the extra water of Ajwa dam to Narmada Canal to avoid the future related disasters. Heavy downpour in the last two days has led to death of 16 people and rendering thousand homeless in Gujarat.
