Four Indian citizens who were lured and coerced into becoming soldier for a Russian private military company are now home, reports the Times of India.

Some of the Returnees include Mohammad Sufiyan from Telangana who earlier posted a video seeking assistance. Three other Indians from Karnataka were with him. All the four were cheated in a job racket which duped about 60 young men from India in to Russia on the pretext of job opportunity in Russia.

Sufiyan, and others had no other option but to fight as soldiers in almost inhuman circumstances. They got only 2-meals a day and had to work for 15 hours a day with digging trenches and handling weapons such as the AK-12 and AK- 74.

Television, radios and even mobile phones were taken away so that people could not communicate with their loved ones while even the slightest sign of tiredness was met with the warning that shots would be fired.

Family members of the victims contacted the Union External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and due to arrange his intervention the relatives of the victims were able to return. Nevertheless, many others stay within the country of Russia imprisonment.

Sufiyan suffers from the posttraumatic stress disorder due to the death of his friend Hamil in the drone attack during their service. “It shook me up,” he stressed on the fact of how traumatic those times really were.
