Within hours of Bajrang Punia joining the Indian National Congress (INC), the wrestler was made the Working Chairman of the All India Kisan Congress. The announcement brings Punia into the political lime light ahead of next haryana state assembly elections. He formally became a member of the Congress along with wrestler and an Olympian in Vinesh Phogat earlier today with General Secretary KC Venugopal present in the occasion and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge gave blessings to him.
Punia’s political decision has been expected for quite sometime now more so after the meeting between him, Phogat and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Their discussion created rumours that they could enter politics. Rahul Gandhi later posted a photo of the said meeting and where he commended the duo for their achievements in the sports of wrestling.
Vinesh Phogat they went out in support of farmers who are currently protesting for MSP guarantee, she has been supporting their protest actively. Both of them have escalated their participation in public welfare as well as political issues where she supported farmers movement while Punia has been made affirmative appointment in the Congress party role. But more recently Phogat has asserted that she is interested not in politics, but in the well-being of farmers.
