The ‘one nation, one election’ policy in India is likely to be effected during the term of the BJP led NDA government, as sources disclose, and with more hope on support across the political divide. This move has been made when NDA government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has entered into its third one hundred days of its tenure. Simultaneous elections means that there is no frequent holding of the polls and this is something Modi says hampers the country’s development.

This electoral reform give message by PM Modi in his Independence Day Speech to the political parties to work for the interest of the nation rather for their own self interest. Hewalked the talk in terms of effective utilisation of national resources and the concerted team effort that was needed to realise this vision. ‘One nation, one election’ was also one of the major poll planks that BJP took for the Lok Sabha polls.

Two-level suggested steps include the first level of the 100-day model where the interlinked process of one-year synchronization of Parliament and state assembly polls are proposed for the implementation of simultaneous elections and the dynamic, integrated, and incremental model being implemented and experimented at grass-root level. Further, the Law Commission is likely to recommend the synchronised polls for all the three tiers of government by 2029. about the Kovind panel proposed an ‘Implementation Group’ to oversee the process of the conversion, the Kovind panel committee has submitted a report related to constitutional amendments 18 out of which 18 amendments may need the approval of the parliament but may not need the ratification of the state assembly.
