The doctors of B. R. Singh Hospital, Eastern Railway, grabbed physical check over four including Dr. Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital who was arrested by the CBI in connection to a fraud case. The examinations were conducted late Monday night in its CBI anti-corruption branch at West Bengal.

Currently Dr. Ghosh is alleged to have engaged in corrupt practices and he is being investigated for embezzlement of financial resources in the medical institution. The CBI’s probe is under a single bench direction of the Calcutta High Court as given below. Besides Dr. Ghosh, two vendors namely Biplav Singha and Suman Hazar and Afsar Ali, another security provided by the Maoists were arrested.

Union State Minister Sukanta Majumdar reacted to Ghosh’s arrest through a video message saying that he thought of doing it due to public outcry but he doubted Ghosh regarding a different rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor.

The CBI registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Ghosh on August 24 after taking the court’s direction to do so. Dr. Ghosh is a veteran faculty member of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital where he worked as the principal of the said institution from February 2021 to September 2023 but was transferred and then recalled. His term was marred by the sad rape and murder of a trainee doctor in August 2023 , incident in which a civic volunteer, Sanjoy Roy was arrested.
