Residents of Tulkarm in the occupied West Bank were counting the cost of an attack on the city by the Israeli military on Saturday. The operation launched has brought a lot of problems especially on the construction where roads were closed and residents denied basic necessities of life such as water and internet. The Israeli military has resumed operations in other areas of the west bank making it more likely that violence with Palestinian militant groups may increase.

Israeli troops have entered main centres in the northern West Bank such as Tulkarm wielding tanks and bulldozers confronting militia groups and shutting residents inside their homes. Workers were seen scooping debris in the Nur Shams neighborhood where the operation is said to have occurred and where Palestinian militant groups are known to operate, and where Israeli bulldozers with metal detectors looking for explosive devices were seen.

The Israeli military mostly left Tulkarm on Friday but the tentions escalated in Jenin another operational area. According to the Palestinian Authority’s Health Ministry at least 22 Palestinians have been killed since the raid started majorities of which were militants.

The raid comes after the October 7 attacks which were carried out by Hamas in Israel and on-going conflict in the Gaza strip. Consequently, the Israeli security forces have upped their operations in the West Bank with a focal on Palestinian militants in the Jenin and Tulkarm areas which were known to have been involved in more than 150 assaults on Israelis in one year. The raids have also recently increased in partaking and session, where at least one raid can last for several hours, and the flying drones like drones also common.

Some of the people on the ground such as a family who lost a relative to mental illness and was killed during the raid have condemned the continued destruction and violence. Currently, Israeli authorities have not given their stand on these particular incidences.
