YSR Congress headed by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has written a letter to PM Narendra Modi asking him to scold AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu for giving fabricated information about the Tirupati laddu poison case. In his eight-page letter, Jagan referred to Naidu as a ‘habitual liar,’ claiming that the ethnicity of the AP CM wasitical for political mileage at the expense of the millions of Hindu faithfuls.
While explaining how ghee is received in the TTD, Jagan said that the ghee which was alleged to be adulterated, was refused entry into the temple premise. He condemned Naidu for levelling the allegation during a political assembly on September 18, where he charged that the previous YSRCP government used inferior quality raw material in the laddus.
Jagan appealed to Modi to challenge the statements of Naidu and ensure positive perception on the purity of the temple. He further opined that what Naidu is doing, especially forcing his way into the shrine of a deity, is putting unnecessary suspicion in the hearts of people, particularly devotees.
At the same time, the Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Pawan Kalyan also criticized Jagan saying that he had no concerns about temple safety while saying that more than 300 temples had been vandalized during his time. Kalyan claimed that during YSRCP rule the prasadam service was tainted with contaminated material. He also recommended formation of a National ‘Sanatana Dharma Rakshana Board’ at the national level to deal with problems relating to temples across the country.
The debate has thus taken an aggressive political and religious undertone, with leaders from both camps deploying all sorts of abuses to accuse each other on the sacred customs performed in Tirupati as well as other temples across the world.
