Kolkata Rape-Murder Case: Marching On Continues Despite Supreme Court’s Ruling

As per the apex court order, a direction was given to doctors to join duty from 5 pm on Tuesday; however, the junior doctors who are continuing their protest for the rape and murder of the RG Kar Hospital trainee doctor will not budge from their ‘cease work’. It has been a nearly one-month protest asking justice for the victim and the resignation of the health secretary of the state along with the director of health education. The doctors said they are planning to take out a rally to Swasthya Bhavan, the health department, on Tuesday.

The West Bengal government slogging their stand before the Supreme Court stating no disciplinary measures including transfers would be initiated against those doctors if only they return to work. Not only in Kolkata but the entire country has been observed to protest against the incident.

The Supreme Court expressed doubts over the absence of challan, which ought to have been submitted along with the body for the post mortem and criticised the 14 hours’ delay in filing the FIR by Kolkata Police. The CBI has been asked to file a fresh status report by this 17th of September.

There was also the order of the removal of the victim’s photos from the social media with an aim of protecting the deceased’s dignity and privacy. Further, in view of such apprehensions, the court directed both the district magistrates and the police superintendents of West Bengal to provide adequate security to the government medical colleges.
