Mamata Banerjee Meets Agitating Doctors, Dissolves RG Kar Hospital Welfare Committee Amid Protests

West Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee paid a sudden visit to protest venue on the outside of Swasthya Bhawan in Salt Lake where junior doctors have been striking. The doctors have resolved to petition for justice with more incident of a raped and murdered doctor at RG Kar Hospital. 

 

 When Banerjee met the protesters, she said, “I have been laying wakeful nights knowing that you have been demonstration in the rain. ” She said their problems would be looked into and if anyone is involved in the menace, he will be dealt with as per law. Nonetheless, the doctors kept on singing: “We want justice,” the same phrase that his mother kept on promising them. 

 

 Banerjee added that, “This is my last attempt to solve the crisis,” in words which indicated the seriousness of the issue at hand. In response to the doctors’ concern, she also said that the patient welfare committee formed at RG Kar Hospital, where the event took place, has also been dissolved. 

 

 The protest in relation to this vry horrendous event has fuelled anger amongst junior doctors in the said state who are now seeking justice and urgent action. The interaction of Banerjee and her words regarding intervention are supposed to help to calm down tensions, however it is yet to be seen if it’s going to help to settle the current strife.
