Militants Fire Rockets in Manipur, One Dead, Five Injured at Ex-Chief Minister’s Home

Militants fired rockets in Manipur at two places one of them being the former chief minister’s house. It brought the death toll of the 17 month-year brutal conflict tighter when it killed one person and wounded five others. Flying from Churachandpur hills, rockets hit 72-year- old R. K. Rabei Singh of Moirang, preparing for religious ceremonies. Five persons of the family including a minor girl of 13 years of age was grievously injured. 

 

 In the Tronglaobi 2 buildings were struck by rockets with out losses and earlier in the day also some time back, rockets had hit 2 buildings without any loss of life. Yesterday test firing of rockets which were made out of scrap iron pipes was conducted from a range of five kilometers. Manipur’s Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that the attack was a terrorism using drone bombs and promised security measures to the area. 

 

 The violence is based on tribal conflict between Kuki and Meitei tribal people and the violent conflict started from May 2023. In response the state government ordered all schools to be closed for safety on the 7th of September.
