NDRF Intensifies Flood Relief in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Amid Severe Rains

Flood relief operations have been stepped up in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana with 26 NDRF teams deployed in the two states for operations both in the flood rescue and relief. Currently, 12 state teams have arrived at the site and 14 more teams are expected soon of which 8 teams have been airlifted from different parts of India. These teams are to be provided with inflatable boats, tree cutters, and essential medical equipment’s. 

 

 Heavy downpour continues to causes much damage, more than ten people are feared dead, major flood in the two states and disruptions in transport networks notably roads and railway systems. Some of the major rivers have even burst their banks causing massive evacuations. The ‘A’ team chief, Narendra Modi and the ‘B’ team chief Amit Shah has ensured full support of the central government for both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. 

 

 The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has sought for more NDRF teams, power boats and helicopters to help in the operation. Floods have affected many localities in Vijayawada and as a result has thrown open 10 lakh cusecs of water at Prakasam Barrage. A region known as the South Central Railway zone forced the cancellation of 140 integral trains while the remaining 97 trains were just rerouted; these passengers were supplied with food and water and also buses to travel an alternate way for about 6000 visitors. 

 

 Many schools in Hyderabad are closed today due to the threat of heavy rains and storm alert has been issued for citizens living in flood prone areas. There is a control room that has also been established in the state Secretariat in order to track on-going occurrences and provide tragedy response.
