The NSA of India, Ajit Doval, will be travelling to Russia this week for talks on the peace process on the ongoing conflict of Russia Ukraine war, based on the information available with India Today. Doval will also attend BRICS-NSA meeting and will have a bilateral meeting with his Russian and Chinese counterpart following up on the BRICS summit held in Moscow in July.

The visit comes on the heels of talks last week between Indian Prime Minster Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin during which the role of Doval in the peace process was mentioned. Presidential spokesman of Russia Dmitry Peskov further mentioned that India can or may help solve the issue of Ukraine.

Indeed, Modi who was once in Ukraine encouraged Zelensky to use dialogue with Russia, to emphasize that India is for peace. Russian president Putin himself has not ruled out the possibility of Brazil, China and India acting as mediators.

Italy’s Prime Minister, Giorgia Melone also focused on India and China with regard to their possibility in handling the Russia Ukraine issue. However, due to the attack of Russia on Ukraine that started in September 2022 the war is still going on with a large number of losses on both the Russian and Ukrainian sides even though there were some preliminary talks held in Istanbul between Russian and Ukrainian representatives. Statistics by *The New York Times* show that over 500 000 people have died or been injured in the process of the conflict.
