In the run up to the Haryana assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stepped up attacks on Congress and called for the state’s voters to understand the result of the having a Congress government in Himachal Pradesh where the financial condition of the state is the worst. Modi attributed the failure to fulfill campaign promises for the condition of the state finances: the inability to pay government employees and pensioners on time. Addressing an election meeting in Hisar, the Prime Minister said despite being a dominant political entity of the state Congress had let down the people of Himachal by making them poorer through debts.

He also pointed to factionalism within the Congress party, especially in Haryana where the leaders are already jostling for the CM’s chair. The Prime Minister had a take on the primary contender for his chair, Bhupinder Singh Hooda and his son Deepender Hooda lampooning their attempts to sabotage each other.

He criticised Congress for not being able to provide political stability to the state and said that a party which has split into different factions cannot deliver good governance. He further alleged that Congress did not respect Dalit class and quoted instances of injustice meted out to the Dalits under the Hooda regime in Haryana wherein Congress did not utter anything.

The prime minister’s speech was presided over by the Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and other senior BJP members. As the Haryana assembly goes to polls on October 5, Modi’s tirade against Congress intends to influence the electorate to vote for the BJP by pointing spearheading Congressi system and the policy of divide and rule.
