Rahul Gandhi's comments on potentially ending reservations in India spark strong criticism from BJP and BSP leaders.

Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi is receiving flak for his remark made in the US; where he said that his party may look at repealing the quota system when India becomes a civilised country. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday targeted Gandhi saying he has revealed the ‘real face’ of the Congress on the issue of reservations.

Therefore, Fadnavis accused the Congress of disrespecting Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar as well as the Constitution of India citing instances that the Congress had allegedly plotting against Ambedkar. This he said Indian Congress gang chief sants Gandhi s remarks also go against his position about defending the Indian Constitution and reservation policies.

Gandhi made the inflammatory remarks during an engagement at Georgetown University at where he pointed to the exclusion of the lower castes and other minorities in the Indian economy and in business. He pointed out the differences in financial investment in tribals, Dalits & OBCs & said India is nowhere near a level playing field society. He further said that although reservation is a useful strategy, it alone cannot deal with these inequalities.

Mayawati who is the BSP leader aggressively condemned Gandhi’s statement along with the BJP party. Union Home Minister Amit Shah further charged Gandhi of exposing the anti-reservation stand of Congress party. On the other hand, Mayawati cautioned the people and charged the congress party with planning to bring a law to abolishing quotas for SC, ST and OBCs.
