Speaking at the National Press Club in Washington DC in an interaction, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi spoke on India’s position in managing the emerging relationship between the US and China. He accepted China as powerful neighbor of India and at the same time accepts the fact that India has good relation with US. He always emphasized on strategic perspective for the nation and did not favor short strategic decisions for his country.

Gandhi stressed on the importance of Indian culture to adhere to non-violent path of Arbeit for India to regain freedom while steering itself in accordance with International relations and systems following the ideologies of Mahatma Gandhi. He stressed that India is idea-ological, meaning multiple idea-systems and or Politys, and said that were we to lose grasp of it, we may run into strategic issues.
He condemned the current Indian government openly declaring, India’s democracy, its strategic crown jewel, is being frittered away It is a global asset: Democracy is a public good. Although Gandhi pointed out syncing of India with the Modi government’s US policy in some aspect, he vehemently opposed the Modi government’s approach towards China.
Gandhi ended his speech emphasizing on the significance of democracy around the world and his worry at its deterioration and India was no exception.
