The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Monday supported the caste census arguing that it is beneficial to meet the needs of the populace’s welfare but denied that it should be used for vote gathering. “The Government should get it done for data purposes and not for any other purpose,” Sunil Ambekar, the chief spokesperson of RSS concluded.
‘Caste reactions are considerably sensitive in our society and they serve a useful purpose for the integration of the nation but at the same time, the so-called caste census should not be politicized for election, campaigning, and electoral gains. ’
The Congress has been demanding the caste census across the country, Rahul Gandhi, in particular, has vowed to breach the 50 percent reservation for the S, ST and OBCs.
