The CBI had arrested AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi Chief Minister on charges of being involved in the excise policy scam on June 26, and on Friday the Supreme Court granted him bail. The bail which has been granted by a two-judge bench of the Delhi High Court comprising Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan has several conditions including a bond ofRs 10 lakhs.

In other words, Kejriwal has to be present physically in the trial sessions and adhere to legal directions in order not to have legal complications. He had been banned from speaking to the media about the case or else engaging in political debate over the case. Also he cannot even move to the CM’s office, can even cannot sign documents, or can even cannot speak to witness.

Justice Surya Kant highlighted on the issue of liberty and said that liberty might have been affected for Kejriwal as he remained confined for a long time. Due to the nature and number of chargesheets and the number of witnesses the trial is likely to take time. Stating that there wasn’t much chance of tampering with evidence, the court released Kejriwal.
