TMC Rajya Sabha MP Jawhar Sircar has resigned over the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case out of frustration in corruption and governance problems. The latter was also attributed to an FU letter penned by Sircar to the West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee where the former opposed the state’s slow response to the occurrence while berating the government for inaction on corrupt doctors.

He has also talked about the issue of corruption prevailing in the Party and in regards to which he mentioned the name of former Education Minister, Partha Chatterjee. Sircar said that his appeal to speak on corruption in public was opposed by the other senior members of his political party.

Sircar who joined TMC in 2021 bitterly complained about growing wealth of some panchayat and municipal level leaders which he compared with his own simple life. He explained, claiming current sociopolitical demonstrations, are evidences of citizens’ growing rage towards corruption and authoritarianism.

Sircar reassured the public that he has steadfastly vowed to eradicate corruption as well as communalism. Sashi Tharoor has signaled that he is going to resign from the Rajya Sabha and retire from active politics and distance himself from the party. Sircar concluded by calling out for some changes to be effected before the communal forces establish themselves.
