The group of attackers ranging from six to seven persons started pelting the picnic site on the Mhow-Mandleshwar road at about 2:00 A. M They attacked an officer who was sitting with his female friend in the car as stated and explained by the in-charge of Badgonda police station Lokendra Singh Hirore. The other officer and the remaining woman, who was outside on a hilltop, joined in running to the scene but were also taken hostage at the point of guns. The attackers are said to have demanded a ransom of ten lakhs of rupees in the incident. The officer was, however, able to make a call to his superiors in Mhow who in turned informed the police. By the time the police got there the attackers had already disappeared.
