Wrestlers Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia join Congress today; slam BJP on action against wrestlers as they stepped out to protest against WFI chief Brij Bhushan Singh. Phogat added the injustice during their protest saying, “When we were being dragged on the streets, evry political party was there with us, but BJP. ” The BJP, according to Phogat claimed to have ruined our careers when I competed in nationals and Olympics.
Last year both Phogat and Punia were involved in sexual harassment allegations against Brij Bhushan, which was vocalized and became national news.
Phogat said she was happy to join the Congress stating that, “I am fully charged to start this new chapter with Congress party that has supported us in times of distress After going through tough times, you realize who is with you. ” She vowed to fight for women in similar situations.
Speaking about her expulsion from the 2024 Paris Olympics on grounds that she weighed 100 grams more than the permissible weight during the weigh-in, Phogat, said, “be it, was probably the plan of the Almighty”.
