Recently in an interview when asked a pretty aggressive rapid-fire question, as usual, with a twinkle in the eye, Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar answered it. When asked which a he would like to sit and have dinner with- Kim Jong Un or George Soros, Jaishankar had the perfect reply, stating that it was Navratri, and he is on a fast. His fast witty response sparked laughter from the public and within no time this video flooded social media platforms.
The question was highly relevant due to the contentious character of the participants in the computations. Soros has been an open critic of Modi, has been blamed by BJP of sponsoring anti-India operations. Another subject is Kim Jong Un who is associated with head of state of North Korea, the country with notoriously tense relationships with other countries.
Jaishankar’s wordplay was not the only time he spoke about Soros during his speech. This year, he attacked Soros following the latter’s comments that Prime Minister Modi would become focused on the Adani-Hindenburg issue. Jaishankar described Soros as an “old, rich, dangerous man, who could not keep his opinions to himself.”
Soros says that based on the turmoil that has engulfed businessman Gautam Adani and the possible financial difficulties that he and his companies are facing, this will put pressure on Modi and create uncertainty in India’s investment climate. Soros kept the door open for a “democratic revival” in India ever so slightly. Jaishankar thus countered such assertions stating that Soros is cloaked in the mantle of democracy only where he gets the results he wants, and condemned him for working false narratives in the name of an open society.
